The Japanese brand has presented a long-awaited novelty - the Subaru BRZ 2021 sports coupe. Externally, the second generation model has changed, although it retained its corporate features. The designers added aggressiveness to the coupe and decorated the more embossed body with new air ducts. Another highlight is the DuckTail wing spoiler. The bumper, radiator grille, and optics were not left unchanged.
The cabin has a digital dashboard and a new multimedia system with an 8-inch screen and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The list of equipment includes the EyeSight security system.
The new Subaru BRZ retains the same platform, but body stiffness has increased by 50%. This improvement was achieved thanks to a new subframe and reinforcement at the main anchorage points. The roof, bonnet, and front fenders of the new BRZ 2021 are made of aluminum. This improvement reduced the curb weight of the Subaru coupe to 1315 kg.
The generations' change brought the Subaru BRZ a new engine - a 4-cylinder horizontally opposed naturally aspirated unit with a volume of 2.4 liters (228 hp, 249 Nm). They replaced the previous 2.0-liter motor with 205 hp. and 211 Nm. In addition to the increase in power, the new engine provided the coupe with a lower center of gravity. The internal combustion engine can work in tandem with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission with a new Sport mode. The dynamic characteristics of the coupe are not announced.
Subaru will establish serial production of the BRZ at a plant in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. The start of sales is scheduled for mid-2021.
